Health information should be usable by everyone, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, magnification or other assistive technology.
Our target
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA.
Current status: partially conformant. This is based on our own checks, not a formal external audit. Many pages meet the guidelines, but not every page does yet.
What we do
- Write in plain language and explain medical terms when we use them
- Use a clear heading structure on every page
- Add descriptive alternative text to meaningful images
- Use link text that says where a link goes
- Support browser zoom and work on phones, tablets and desktops
- Aim for readable text sizes and sufficient colour contrast
Known limitations
- Some older articles may have images without good alternative text, or tables without proper headers. We are fixing these as we update older pages.
- Some interactive health tools may not yet work fully with a keyboard or screen reader.
- Advertisements and other third-party content are provided by partners, and we cannot fully control their accessibility.
